The Four Children

It was a dark night on the planet of Ishinabu. There were four children born that night. Jennifer Cizick, Tara Ionieoman, Nikolas Evardoman, and finally, Mikial Larfodan. These children were born in the same medical building at the same time and on the same floor. They were all marked with the numbers one through four. As always on the planet of Ishinabu, ladies first. They were taken from their parents right after they were born. The only thing they had gotten was a note saying the following:

To the parents of this child. Your child was taken from you for a specific reason. This reason cannot be explained to you for the simple fact that your minds are too small and there is nothing that you will be able to understand about why you will probably never be able to see your child again. Thank you for not understanding. The Ishinabu Government.

Kelemon left the medical building in total shock. She could not believe that her son had been taken from her. She knew that it had to be the work of the evil king, Lord Kino. Only he would be so extreme to take someone’s newborn child. She had to walk home due to the fact that on Ishinabu, the women were not allowed to drive cars without the written permission of the dominating male in hand. Well, Jomaki never gave her written permission before he left the medical building. Her car was still there. She made a mental note of having Jomaki go back and get it later that night. He would have to. Everyone knew that if the woman would have to walk to the car, the note would then be void. Everyone, even the men, thought that this was a very ridiculous rule. They all knew that the women would have to walk to get to the cars, but with this law in order, the men had to take time from working to drive the women to their cars. In turn, this gave them a medical condition called “Niceopletosis.” This was when the men had to leave work to do something for their wives. The men had to work 30-hour days. On Ishinabu, the days were 40 hours long and the nights were 20 hours long. Jomaki never knew that Mikial was taken from Kelemon. He knew that she was going to the medical building to give birth, but didn’t know that she was walking home. He completely forgot to give her a note to drive the car to their personal quarters. When Kelemon got to her residence, she ran to the phone and picked it up. “Thank you for calling Ishinabu Industries” the voice on the other end said.

“Yes, I would like to speak with Jomaki Larfodan please.” Kelemon said.

“Yes, one second” the voice said again, only this time with some agitation.

Kelemon stood in the foyer of their house. She was trying to hold back the tears and think of something else. She didn’t know how to tell Jomaki. She didn’t know if he would understand. But then she really didn’t care. All she knew was that her son - their son, had been taken from them.

“Ishinabu Industries, this is Jomaki speaking, what can I do for you?”

Kelemon heard his voice and the floodgates opened. “Jomaki, they took Mikial! I didn’t know what to do. They left a note saying that we wouldn’t understand. I can’t believe it. Mikial’s gone! What are we going to do? Oh and you never gave me a note to drive the car home! I had to walk all the way from the medical building! Sometimes I wonder why I married you, you are such an ass!”

“Woah, hold on there honey! What are you saying? Mikial is gone? Who took him?”

“The Ishinabu Government, that’s who!”

“But why?”

“I don’t know! I really don’t know.”

“Ok, I get off of work in a couple of hours, I am coming straight home and we can talk about this. All right? I need to go now, I am going to an important meeting with the president of Ashukara Limited.”

“Fine, I see how this is, you care about work more that you do your own son! I will remember this in the future, good bye!” Kelemon screamed into the phone and hung up. Now things were worse, her husband didn’t care about their son being stolen from them, and he would rather be a work than come home and console her. She knew that the other parents had to have known by now. Could she call them? No, that was out of the question. She knew that if the government would find out about it, they would kill them all. She went over to the couch and grabbed the book she had been reading for the whole time that she was pregnant, “The Prophecies of Ishinabu.” She opened up the book and started reading. Her mouth dropped at the name of the chapter. “The Four Children.” Slowly she turned the page and quietly read.

Soon, four children will be born on the same day. Their times are irrelevant, but will probably be born at the same time. The Ishinabu Government will come in and take the children from their parents, leaving the parents clueless and worried about their children. Over time, these children will train. I am sure that you are wondering why these children will be training, well, let me tell you why. These are the children that are destined to beat the king. Each of these four children will have a special power. I cannot tell you the names of these children, but I can tell you their numbers. Yes, that’s right, their numbers. Number one has the power to control weather, number two has the power to rip things apart with her mind, number three has the power of metamorphosis, and number four has the power of mind control. When these children are ready, they will go up against the king, head-to-head. All of these children must master their powers before challenging the king or the inevitable will happen. They will lose. I cannot say what will happen at the end of these battles for the parents might be reading this book. All I can say is: Good Luck.

Kelemon just sat in absolute terror. Her mind was shifting constantly. She didn’t know what number Mikial was. The door opened and Jomaki walked in. He ran to the couch and held Kelemon in his strong arms.

11 years later.

“So, do you think that we can beat the king?” Jennifer asked Tara.

“Well, I don’t know. I do know that I do things with my mind that I didn’t know that I could do. Like I can rip paper with just thinking about it. I wonder…”

“NO! Tara, don’t even think about it. If the king finds out about this, he will have your head.”

“Well, you know as I have been saying for the last 11 years, it’s no skin off my back, well, figuratively speaking anyway.”

“Right, I understand, but I don’t want to have to watch you die, you’re too good of a friend for that. It would ‘tear me up’ inside.” Jennifer said while making a heart wrenching gesture.

“Aww isn’t that sweet.” Tara replied mockingly.

“Oh, shut up!”

Just as their conversation ended, the two boys walked in. Nikolas was fairly short for his 11 years. He was muscular and had eyes that could make a grown Ishinabuian cry. He had brown hair and deep purple eyes; everyone says they could penetrate a wall. Mikial on the other hand was average height with platinum hair and dark green eyes. He could look at you and penetrate your soul. He was also muscular but, in a book sense.

“Hey darlin’,” Nikolas said to Jennifer, “whatcha up to?”

“Oh, grow up Nik!” Jennifer said to him, she stared into his eyes and met his gaze with her silver eyes. She had dark hair that hung down to the small of her back. The breasts that were starting to grow had started very rapidly and were now a very considerable size.

“Now that’s no way to talk to me! You know, that’s no way to talk to your future husband.” Nik replied with a smile spreading across his face.

“Future husband my ass. You know just as well as I do that we cannot have relations here. If the king finds out, ohhh man, I don’t even want to know what he will do.”

“Yeah right, we are pre teens. What can he do? I mean we all explore our bodies and everything. I know for a fact that he isn’t going to outlaw sex. He hasn’t yet, so technically, we won’t be breaking the law. Right?”

“Well, you do have a point there.” Jennifer said as she took Nik’s hand and led him to her living quarters.

“Hey, don’t you even get anything on my bed!” Tara screamed after them.

Now it was just Tara and Mikial left. He just looked at her. He couldn’t believe her beauty. He reached up and put his hand on her sky blue hair. He looked deep into her smoky gray eyes. Then he did the most daring thing an 11-year-old pre teen could do. He closed his eyes and leaned in for his first kiss. Tara closed her eyes and let him do what he had to do. Secretly she had wanted this to happen for a long time. Their lips pressed together and it was like fireworks. His soft lips pressing against hers. She went limp. All she could do was wrap her arms around his neck and press deeper into him. He reached up and placed his hand behind her head and slowly pressed his tongue into her mouth. She welcomed it with glee. They stood like this for five minuets, just kissing. Finally Mikial took away his mouth and took in a deep breath. It was the best thing that he had ever known. “Wow, that was wonderful.” He said with a look of astonishment, while trying to catch his breath.

“Yeah, I know what you mean. You know, I have to tell you this now. I have feelings for you. I have for a really long time now. Since I can remember. I didn’t know how to tell you, or if you would even understand. I know that I didn’t the first time that I saw you. You were to beautiful to me.”

“Umm, thanks, I guess. Let me give you a piece of advice. You don’t call guys beautiful. We are handsome.” He retorted with a smile spreading across his face.

“There is something else I need to tell you.”

“What is it?”

“Well, I don’t know if you will be able to understand. I think I am going to try and go up against the king on our birthday.” She said still unsure if he would understand.

“Woah, wait a minuet. Have you mastered your power? Well, that doesn’t even matter. Do you think that you can win?”

“Well, I don’t know. I think that I have pretty much mastered it. I mean, there are some things that I still don’t quite understand, but I think that they can be bypassed.”

“But, why on our birthday?”

“Because I want it to be something special. You know? I mean, beating the king on the day that we were born. Wow, I think that would be great.”

“ Ur, yeah it would be, but do you honestly think that you can beat him?”

“Well, yeah, I think so. Heck, it’s only three more days until our birthday, I think I can manage.” Tara said smiling.

“Well, that’s all on you. Oh, I think I can hear the others coming.”

Nik and Jennifer walked back into the room. Mikial couldn’t help but laugh. He saw that Nik had little beads of sweat on his forehead. “So, she worked you pretty hard, eh?”

“Oh Mikey, leave me alone. You just as well as I do, that it was only my first time. And everyone during their first time are always quick to expire.”

“Nik, will you quit trying to sound so damn smart.”

“Sometimes I just can’t hide my intelligence. It’s not so easy being the smart one.”

“Like you would know Nik.” Tara said.

“Well, I have been watching you darling.” Nik said with a smile on his face.

Tara didn’t know what to say. She smiled and just went to bed. Jennifer soon followed. Mikial looked at Nik and said, “Well, I guess we should go to bed. We have a big day ahead of us tomorrow. I mean with training and all.”

“Yeah, I know what you mean.”

The boys went to bed. The next day Tara could not be found. She had gotten up early and already made her bed. There was no sign of her in the living quarters. The three children all walked into the living room and saw a note on the table. Jennifer picked it up and read aloud: “I am sorry to have to do this, but I cannot stand it anymore. I have decided to go up against Lord Kino today. If you want to watch, you are more then welcome to. But don’t be surprised if I lose. It’s a part of life. I have lost all of the battles of my 11 years and I don’t intend this one to be any different. I love all of you guys, and I hope to see you soon. Love Always, Tara.”

“What in the hell is going on? Tara hasn’t even mastered her power yet.” Nik said with a quiver in his voice.

“Well, evidently she is going to try to beat the king today.” Jennifer said sarcastically.

“But today isn’t our birthday.” Mikial said without thinking.

The other two children looked at him quizzically. He then explained their conversation. He told them that Tara was planning on going against the king on their 12 th birthday. He saw both of their mouths drop. There was a deafening silence in the room. Then all of the children heard the loud speakers in the living room come to life. “Attention children one, three, and four, your presence is requested in the dome in 30 minuets. The 2 nd child has decided to try and defeat me today.”

“Well, there is our answer. We better get ready.” Jennifer said to the boys.

All three children walked into their rooms to get ready for the afternoon’s battle.

In The Battle Dome

“Welcome everyone to the first battle of four. I am assuming that you know this is child number 2. She has made it apparent to me that she wants to try to defeat me today. Let the games begin.” A voice said over the speakers in the dome. The three children saw Tara walk out of her hole in the side of the wall. She was wearing no protective garments. She walked out into the center of the ring and stomped her foot on the hard rocky soil. She looked down and could still see some of the dried blood that had been there since the last battle they watched over three weeks ago. The king came down from his throne and stood directly across from her. The battle had begun. Tara closed her eyes and looked as though she was in deep concentration. The next thing that everyone realized was that the king’s left arm was beginning to rip off. It flew away perpendicular to his body and made a loud thump when it hit the wall. The arm lay on the ground, motionless. The king let out a loud scream. Blood was starting to pour out of the hole that was by his shoulder. Then the right leg was sinking further into the ground. The tearing sound that everyone heard was horrific. By the time they heard the pop from the bones disconnecting, they realized that the left arm had grown back into place and was starting to get its color back.

“No way!” Nik said in disbelief.

Mikial just sat there with his jaw hanging open. He couldn’t think of anything to say.

“This can’t be happening, it’s not physically possible.” Jennifer said. She then got an idea. The sky over head the dome had once been very bright and yellow, now started to turn dark green, as it always did when there was a storm coming. Lightning started to come down into the dome and one struck the king. He stood motionless while the enormous amount of voltage coursed through his body. Smoke was protruding off of his skin as it was being burnt. Then the voltage ceased as Jennifer lost her concentration. She knew that it would give Tara a little bit of time to work her magic. The king’s right leg had grown back now, and from what everyone could see, it was more muscular. That made no difference to Tara; she was still in deep meditation. Before she could make her next move, the king had already started to run upon her. He withdrew his sword and ran at full speed. Tara opened up her eyes and saw that the king was charging at her with all of his might. She couldn’t move. Her body had frozen. The next thing she realized was that the sword was raised above the king’s head and started to come down, as he was getting closer. Then she closed her eyes and thought about that hand. The hand that the sword was in. She could hear the skin starting to rip. She could feel no pain. It was all over in a flash. Tara’s body had fallen to the ground. Her head was just landing. It rolled across the dome floor only to stop right in front of the king’s feet. He looked up with the sign of triumph as some people in the dome started to cheer. Others just gasped as they couldn’t believe that he could kill an 11-year-old child.

Jennifer looked up and saw two people that she had never seen before, but they looked oddly familiar. The thought entered her head and she acted before she could think it through. She stood up and walked over to the two people. Once she was close enough to see definition she knew why they looked so well known. It was Tara’s parents.

“Umm, hi, I am Jennifer. I am so sorry.” Jennifer said, not really knowing what she was saying.

The young woman looked up. She could see the tears in her eyes. “Oh honey, it’s not your fault. Don’t worry about it. We knew something like this was going to happen, we just didn’t know when. Isn’t life funny like that? I mean, we get a call saying that our daughter was going to be in the dome today and we could see her,” she paused and inhaled sharply, “then this. I am not holding anything against you. I just hope that you are the child that gets to defeat this evil monster.”

“Oh, I intend to. Believe me, I do intend to.”

“Thank you very much young lady, what is your name? We will keep you in our thoughts.”

“Jennifer, child number one, thank you, and you will be in mine,” she said quietly. With that, the young couple had disappeared. She walked back to the boys who were still sitting in their seats and trying to close their mouths. They could not believe what they had just seen. The king had murdered their best friend Tara.

“Well, I guess she got what she wanted.” Nik said.

“Oh, Nik, you just know when to say the wrong thing. Shut up!” Mikial retorted.

“Hey, she is the one who decided this, not me. If it were up to me, I would have her around some more. I liked her, you know that Mikial. I had feelings for her that I couldn’t explain. Just get over it. She’s dead. I know that I sound really brutal in saying that, but I mean it with the bottom of my heart. We still have to train today and we all need to concentrate really hard if anything is going to be done about us beating the king. All right. I want you to just shut up and go to your sector,” Nik said with confidence in his voice.

“Mikial, I know you had feelings for her too. I really do. I heard you all those nights that you were dreaming about her. It wasn’t easy for me, believe me on that one. But I think it is going to be harder for you to get over it then it will be for me. And think about Jennifer. She lived with her. What about her absence? Are you just going to tell her to ‘get over it?’ I didn’t think so. I think that we all need to go into a private room and just think about what has been done. Skip training for today. We won’t be able to concentrate anyway.” Nik added, taking the leadership position as always.

“All right you two, quite your arguing, it’s not going to solve anything. You know that. Just go to training. I don’t want to be the next one to die. And besides, we have a funeral to go to in a couple of days and I want you two to find something nice to say about her,” Said Jennifer, jumping into the discussion, “it’s not our fault that she died. It’s her own. We all know that, but it’s something that we are going to have to get used to. Not having her around. I know it’s going to be hard, but we all need to do it because the sooner that we do that, the sooner we can beat the king.”

“All right.” The boys said in unison. They all went to training. Mikial was walking through the living room and saw Jennifer sitting on the couch. He just walked over to her and said nothing. He knew that sometimes a soothing hand is better then nothing at all. After staying like this for an hour Jennifer looked up at him and he could tell she had been crying. “Mikial, just go to bed.”

The next morning the three children woke up at the same time. There was a line for the shower minus one. When everyone was ready they went out to eat. They all ordered their favorite dishes. The meals came and everyone ate in silence.

“I can’t stand it any more. I don’t know about you two, but I have got to talk to someone. This is getting ridiculous. I am sorry, but I can’t hold it in anymore. We have a huge day ahead of us and - “

“Some of us have a huge day ahead of us.” Nik said interrupting Mikial.

“What do you mean?” Mikial asked

“Yeah, what exactly do you mean? Nik?” wondered Jennifer aloud.

“You will find out later. I need to go. He said as he got up from the table and walked out. The other two just sat there. They ate their breakfast and talked for a little while. “I wonder what he meant.” Jennifer said. The speakers clicked on. This time it was only in that room. “So, you children think that you can beat me? Well, you have something else to be worrying about. Your presence is demanded in the dome in 15 minuets. Be there!” The speakers clicked off.

“Well, it looks like we are going to find out what he meant, let’s go.” The two left the café and started walking towards the dome. By the time that they had gotten there all of the seats were full. They had found theirs in the front row thanks to a guard that had spotted them in the commons. “The king wanted you to get all of the action.” The guard said with a smirk on his face.

“Oh how sweet of him.” Jennifer replied.

The speakers above the dome clicked on. “Attention everyone. Child number three has informed me that he wants to challenge me to a battle today. Let the games begin!”

With that, the door in the wall opened up and Nik came walking out. He was wearing no protective garment, just a pair of shorts. He walked out to the center of the dome and stood there and taunted the king. He lifted his and motioned for the king to come down. “I’m waiting for you.” He said. With that, the king came down and was in the ring. Nik transformed into a Wholly Bear. This bear was 10 times the size of the largest bear on earth.

“Good choice Nik.” Mikial complimented under his breath.

Nik started to walk towards the king. He rose on his two hind legs and swatted at the king. It was a miss. He started to fall. While he was falling the king had drawn his sword. He shoved it into the bear’s stomach. Nik let out a powerful scream. He bit the hand that the king had the sword in. He ripped it off and threw it across the dome on top of the arm that was lying there from the previous days battle. Nik was bleeding badly. He went for the king again. He clawed at his side. He made contact. The king was thrown across the dome. Nik had the opportunity to metamorphose into a lionox. This was the fastest animal on the planet of Ishinabu. He ran over to the king only to be greeted by a hammer to the head. Nik fell. The hammer had split open his skull. He was dead.

Mikial couldn’t speak; he didn’t even dare try to. Jennifer stood up and pulled Mikial up with her. They then went into the living room of their quarters. The just sat there. Neither one of them knew what to say.

“I just don’t get it. I really don’t. I mean Nik was so normal yesterday. Well, regarding the circumstances. But still, he was all right. Now this.” Mikial said.

“Yeah, I know what you mean. I saw him last night before he went to bed. Before you came over to me and just sat with me. He was fine then. Didn’t seem nervous at all. I guess that’s just how life is.” Jennifer replied.

“Totally messed up. I never would have thought this. No, not this. I mean, you and Nik had a thing going right?” Mikial asked.

“Yeah, we had our thing, but…” She stopped. She realized that she didn’t have anything to say. She knew that if she opened her mouth, the tears would start coming. She couldn’t put herself through that again. She tried to just cry out all of her feelings the night before, when Tara died. It didn’t do anything except make her eyes hurt. They still hurt. She went to wipe them because she could feel a tear getting ready to fall. She winced as her finger touched the skin under her eye. Mikial scooted over to her and put his arm around her. “It’s going to be all right. We still have each other. I won’t leave you. I never had any intentions of leaving. I was going to let everyone else fight before me. But that was only because I wanted to watch the king. You know, get to know how he fights.” Mikial said trying to comfort her.

“Yeah, I know what you mean. So you’re pretty much telling me that I am going to have to be the next one to fight the king. Just to let you know, I don’t plan on combating him for a while. I don’t know about you, but that’s just me. If you decide that you can’t wait anymore, go for it. I am not going to hold you back. But at least let me know before you do it. So I can be somewhat prepared.” Jennifer said.

“Yeah, I think I can do that, and the same to you there!” Mikial said with a smile on his face. The next couple of weeks went without a hitch. The two children were made to see battles between the king and some unworthy commoner thinking he was more powerful than the king. Insanity reigned in this planet. There was always a battle going on somewhere. The two went to their training sessions and trained harder than they have ever trained before. When they left their designated areas they went straight to bed. When they woke up the next morning, they ate breakfast, and went right to training and trained for 25 hours a day. They ate dinner and went to bed. Only tonight was different. Jennifer couldn’t sleep. She just lay in bed and decided her fate that night.

The next morning Mikial woke up and went right to the shower. He noticed that Jennifer was nowhere in sight and saw that there was already water on the bottom of the shower pit. He took his shower and went to eat at the café. When he has down the speakers clicked on, “Attention child number four. Your presence is requested in the dome in 10 minuets.” The speakers clicked off. Mikial stood up and wrote the emergency number on the check that the king gave the children saying that he would get the tab. He left and ran to the dome. When he got there, it was empty. The main speakers came to life. “The reason you have been called here is because child number one has requested that you be the only one to see the battle. You can sit in the throne to watch this battle. But don’t get used to it, this one won’t take long.”

Mikial walked up the king’s throne and took his seat. He looked down just in time to see a cloud start to form in the center of the dome. He could see the lightning flash and the he could hear the rain hit the dirt on the floor. When the cloud broke, he saw Jennifer standing in the center of the dome with both of her hands rose to the sky and her eyes were closed. She was in deep meditation. The king’s body was wet and burnt. But his skin started to regenerate itself. He ran over to her, screaming at her. His hand changed form. It went from the normal figure to being a blade. He ran and stopped abruptly, sending his hand down through the center of her body. She was dead.

Mikial stood up and was gone before the king could say anything to him. He was running down the hall when he kept looking over his shoulder to see if anyone was following him. This was the hardest part. There was nothing that could have warned him of this. He was the only child left of the original four.

Back in the residence chambers Mikial sat on the couch and thought. He came to the sudden conclusion that he must wait for a while and then release his powers on this evil king. He didn’t know what else to do. He just sat there and cried over the loss of his new friend. A friend that he had known for the past 12 years. A friend that he had come to know quite well. He then went to bed.

Meanwhile, the king had gone into Mikial’s training quarters and removed anything of value to his training. He thought that this was the only way to succeed as king. Little did he know that nothing he could ever do, would stop Mikial from getting all of this training done. And in getting all of his training done, would mean success, or so he thought.

The next morning Mikial woke up, rested and with peace at mind. There was nothing that would stop him. He walked over to the shower and took off his bed clothes. There he found a note addressed to him. It read:

“Dear Mikial,

I know your journey has been hard, but I am going to assure you of this. If you do beat me, on the day that you have decided, then you will ultimately become king and then take power over this planet and do whatever you wish to do with it. But then there is always the down side. If you lose, you will die. Have a good day of training.”

The note was left unsigned. Mikial thought that this was odd considering that it didn’t even have the king’s seal on it. But none of this mattered to him now. His mind was set on going to training and then eventually beating the king. Mikial took off his towel and stepped into the shower room. This was still odd considering that Nik had not been there and left the floor wet, or he didn’t hear the other shower running behind the other curtain or hear that awful singing that he longed to hear at this point. But now, there was no time to pay attention to memory. He had to go to training.

He made his way through the building to his training facilities. There his teacher was waiting.

“Mikial, glad to see you joining me today.” the teacher said with a smile.

“It’s the only thing I can do now without thinking of the others, and besides, I need to get back at Lord Kino.”

“Now Mikial, revenge and spite is no reason to go on with this” he replied calmly.

“The hell it’s not. He killed my three best friends. Am I just supposed to sit here and let him get away with that? I don’t think so. So now, are you ready to start?” Mikial was getting visibly angry.

“Yes, lets start with some breathing exercises to get your mind in the right thought process. After that, we can move unto something else. How does that sound?” Gammin asked him.

“Gammin, can I ask you something?” Mikial asked with a perplexing look on his face.

“Sure Mikial, what is it?”

“Well, I was thinking this morning about my parents. I know that they are outcasts because of their beliefs, but can you tell me what it is that they believe?”

“Well, it’s kind of hard to say Mikial. I don’t want to get myself into trouble. You see, I guess the best way to explain it to you is simply this. There is this book. It’s called the bible. It was found a long time ago on this planet called Earth. I know that Earth has not been talked about for a long time. But this bible had wonderful things in it. I found a copy for myself during the raid. So I kept it. I guess, I just wanted it as a keepsake. I thought that it was just like any other normal book. But then after having it in my possession for so long, I guess I just wanted to read it. Well, in there it talks of this God. And how loving he is. It tells of how he sent his son, Jesus Christ, to die on a cross for all of us, and it tells wonderful tales of people that used to live on this planet Earth. And it also talks of how God used them to send his message to other people. It got me thinking. You know. Like about how this place was created. Now, I am not talking about Earth anymore. I am talking about Ishinabu. And I was thinking about how this God had created Earth. It made sense to me. So I believed it.” Gammin retorted.

“Oh, so they believe in some other source for their strength. That makes sense.”

“But Mikial, you’re missing the best part. This God wants to be a part of your life. All you have to do is pray to him and ask him into your heart. I know that it sounds funny, and all, but it’s true.”

“Well, so what are you saying?”

“I don’t know Mikial.”

“Oh, okay.” Mikial said with a smile. He then walked off to the silent room so he could practice his breathing and getting his mind in the right mindset. But what he hadn’t planned on was something very significant.

The whole time he was practicing this breathing he kept thinking of this God guy. It didn’t really make sense to him, he just said that so Gammin wouldn’t feel crazy. But was it really believable? Now he was feeling something tugging at his heart. He didn’t know what it was, but this thing was there, and it wasn’t letting go. He felt the need to pray. “Dear God. I don’t know how to do this, but I guess this has to be right. If what Gammin said was true, then I guess that I want you in my life too. I know that I don’t know you all that well. Okay, I don’t know you at all. Maybe Gammin will bring me a bible sometime. I don’t know. I guess all of this is going kind of fast, but that’s all right.” Mikial ended his prayer and could then breathe normally again.

He did the same routine, except for the prayer, everyday for the next three months. Everyone in the palace thought that he had given up. Even Gammin thought that he was giving up.

Mikial was having a fight going on in his heart. He knew that he should not fight the king, but he also read in the bible that one should go out and make disciples of every nation. If he could beat the king, then that’s exactly what he could do. But he was not sure how to do it yet. So I knelt down in prayer again. He prayed for the guidance of God the father and for the Holy Spirit to watch over him and be with him through every decision that he makes. After a year, he decided.

Back At Home

Kelemon and Jomaki Larfodan sat at their kitchen table. They knew that Mikial was the last child, since they have not been summoned by the king to attend battle. They did not know what to do. Kelemon sat there holding Jomaki’s hand as they prayed for the well being of their only son. Somewhere deep down inside, they knew that it would all work out for the better. “You know, I just have this feeling like it will all work out.” Kelemon said.

“Yeah, I know. For some reason, I am kind of waiting to be summoned to the royal courtyard. I mean, I know that it will be the first time that we see our son, but still.” Jomaki replied.

“Yes, and according to the prophecy in the book, he must win. Well, unless the book is wrong. And in that case…well” Kelemon said trailing off.

“I know, oh, the mail’s here.”

Jomaki got up from the table and left the room. A few minuets later he returned with one letter in his hand. By the look on his face, Kelemon knew that they had just been asked to attend to the royal courtyard.

“Let’s go!” she said before even hearing what he had to say.

At The Palace

Mikial was deep in thought and prayer for this God to help him defeat the king. It was five o’clock in the morning. Today was the day. He didn’t know why he picked today. He knew that he could have used more days of training, but he felt a stirring in his heart. He slowly rose from his bed with his bible in his hands and knelt down in prayer. He stayed like the for two hours. He rose up and placed the bible in his bed, knowing that he would see it again. He walked out of the sleeping quarters and down the long dark corridor to the dome.

In the Dome Auditorium Seats

Kelemon and Jomaki had arrived over an hour ago. They had heard the several announcements of the time counting down until the battle was going to begin. Their hearts began to beat faster as the last announcement was made for the battle. They held hands and prayed silently that their son would be okay. Then there was a sound that they would never forget. The side door to the dome was being opened. There, in the doorway stood a little boy with platinum hair. Kelemon gasped at the sight of her son. He slowly walked out into the center of the dome. The king was already there. When he stopped, he was directly across from the king. He slowly took his time. He sat down in the dirt and crossed his legs in front of him. He then folded his hands and prayed one last time. Everyone in the dome was waiting for him to say something, but he decided that he wouldn’t. Once Mikial was visibly done praying he stayed on the ground. The king just looked at him and laughed. He knew that this was the only way to beat the king. To do what he had been practicing for so long.

The king was getting impatient. He started to say something but his mouth shut instantly. What was controlling him? Almost simultaneously, thoughts of his mother seeped into his mind. He shook his head and screamed. “NOOOOO! This cannot be happening! It just can’t!” He didn’t know what to do. He suddenly felt a pang of guilt in his heart. He knew that he was treated his mother horribly over the past 20 years. But what could he do? Then there were the thoughts of her death and how he didn’t even have the courtesy to go to the funeral. His mind was being over taken. How could this be?

Mikial sat in his spot and not moving. A smile spread across his face. He knew that he was winning. Nothing would stop him, not now, and not ever. He slowly raised his hands and started rubbing his temples. The king shook in terror.

There was only one thing left that he could do. He slowly raised his hand and brought it to his face. There was no more reason to live. Everyone he loved, he turned away. What other point was there? He opened his eyes and saw Mikial deep in thought. He wished he could be that young again and still cling to his mother. He wanted her so badly at this moment. A tear fell from his cheek.
